What is an Adjournment?

An adjournment means to postpone a court date until a later time.

Why Do Lawyers Request Adjournments?

In traffic cases, lawyers routinely request adjournments to give themselves time to properly handle your defense. Courts liberally grant adjournments for good reason. Common reasons include:

  • To meet or negotiate with the prosecutor.
  • To obtain a necessary document or piece of evidence.
  • To allow the client to complete a required driving course or treatment.
  • Or for other good reasons related to building a strong case.

What Does This Mean for You?

As a traffic client, if we tell you that your case has been adjourned, it means you do not have to worry about the next court date on your ticket.

Important Note: If we requested an adjournment to allow you time to do something (like pulling your driving record or taking a defensive driving course), please see that you do it promptly. While courts have patience, it is not endless!
