West Virginia Drivers: Effect of New York Traffic Ticket Convictions

by Seth Azria on 7/24/2023

If you receive a traffic conviction in New York State, West Virginia will be notified of the offense as both states are members of the Driver License Compact.

Points are assessed for all traffic violations committed anywhere in the US using the WV points system. Drivers convicted of multiple offenses arising out of the same incident will be assessed only the points appropriate to the most serious offense.

If you are a West Virginia driver and want to obtain a copy of your driving record, you may do so here.

Insurance Premium Increases are a Concern

Most importantly, it is likely your insurance company will learn of your New York conviction and may increase your premiums or drop coverage. It remains important to mitigate the charge as much as possible.

I was new to the area and ended up accidentally speeding. They helped reduce my ticket from 4 points to just a small fine. Everything was done really efficiently and I'm happy with the end results.

Awesome job

I received a ticket for speeding in Warrensburg, NY for going 20mph above the speed limit - a 4 point and >$200 offense. Mr. Bruffett took the case and had the ticket reduced to a 0 point $150 offense. Great result. I highly recommend his services.

Great experience, very efficient and timely. Got reduced to 0 points - they handled the entire process once receiving my documents. Highly recommend, especially if you live out of state.

fter 6 years of obeying the speed limit (or rather, not getting caught), my luck ran out and I was stopped for a 74/55. I called David and he immediately remembered me from 6 years ago and was happy to help me out again! I was impressed yet again, both with his professionalism , communication, and expedience (also impressed that the rate was not much more). After many failed attempts at managing this ticket myself and contacting the Court, David was immediately able to get the attention of the relevant parties. Within weeks, my ticket was completely dismissed! I cannot recommend David and his office enough! Although I would rather not need to seek this kind of counsel, I am sure I will be calling him back next time I find myself seeing blue in my rear view. Thanks David!

After getting two tickets within a month, David reduced my retainer fee on the second ticket as a "returning client" discount. I knew I had made the right choice at that point. David was personally accessible to any and all concerns that I had regarding my tickets. His staff was also very pleasant and extremely diligent in making sure we had everything in place. David was successful in negotiating what could have been a total of 8+ points between two tickets down to only 2 points. I will refer David to all of my NY friends as my experience made the best out of an otherwise unfortunate situation.
