Texas Drivers: Effect of New York Traffic Ticket Convictions

By Seth M. Azria, Esq.

How Texas DPS Handles New York Traffic Tickets

If you receive a traffic conviction in New York State, Texas will be notified of the offense because both states are members of the Driver License Compact.

If the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is notified by another state that you have not complied with the terms of a traffic citation, you will be notified that your Texas driver's license will be revoked until evidence is received that the citation has been satisfied. Furthermore, Texas DPS will review any out-of-state offense that, had it been committed in Texas, would be grounds for license suspension or disqualification. Insurance Premium Increases & NY DMV Assessments

Insurance Rate Increases: Most importantly, your insurance provider will almost certainly learn of your New York traffic conviction during routine renewal checks. A moving violation logged on your driving record can trigger significant annual premium hikes or lead to the loss of safe driver discounts.

NY DMV Driver Responsibility Assessment (DRA): Regardless of your home state license, the New York DMV maintains a record for all drivers within the state. Accumulating 6 or more points in New York within an 18-month period triggers mandatory Driver Responsibility Assessment fees starting at $300 ($100/year for 3 years). Failure to pay will result in a suspension of your privilege to drive in New York.

Google Review

I had a speeding ticket in NY state in may. I was within 20-30 miles over the limit and it would have been 6 demerit points in NY state. After checking lawyer reviews in google and talking to few firms, I decided to go with Seth. He was very prompt in answering all my questions before I signed up with him and also after that. He got my 6 demerit points reduced to 0 and made it a parking violation charge. I strongly recommend Seth.

Google+ Review

I was issued a speeding ticket in an area that I was unfamiliar with. We researched the law firms to help with reducing the charge of my ticket, since I had never received a speeding ticket before. The professionals at Azria and Bruffett were efficient, organized, and provided me with a comprehensive plan as to how they would handle my case. I was thrilled with the outcome - they were able to plea my case to a much more reasonable fine.

I can't thank them enough!

I highly recommend them, they are the best.

I was very satisfied having them represent me on a speeding ticket. The process was seamless and very convenient. I highly recommend them and will not consider anyone else to represent me if I should ever land in any sticky situations again. They fight tirelessly for you and make it easy for you. I'm from out of state so I didn't have to travel or lift a finger to get it taken care of. They are great.

Would recommend to anyone

Seth Azria was recommended to me by a friend. I can't say enough about how well I was treated, his responsiveness, and how my case was handled. My first call to him was on 12/22/14 and we met the same day. My first and last date in court was 1/15/15. The outcome was better than I ever expected it could be and would recommend him to anyone.
