Iowa Drivers: The Effect of New York Traffic Convictions

By Seth M. Azria, Esq.

Iowa Will Count It Against You

New York and Iowa both signed the Driver License Compact, formally agreeing to share traffic ticket conviction information with each other.

Iowa’s official position on what it does when it receives that out-of-state information is very clear:

“Convictions for moving traffic violations in other states count against your driving record in determining what action the Iowa DOT will take concerning your driving privileges.”

Treat New York Tickets Like Tickets at Home

This strict policy means that if a New York conviction would cause a suspension in Iowa had the violation occurred there, then the Iowan’s driver's license will be suspended directly by the state of Iowa.

For Iowa drivers, a traffic ticket received while visiting or passing through New York should be treated with the exact same level of seriousness as if it were received on their home roads.

Mr. Azria is a thorough professional that explained me the complete process up to the dismissal of my case. Shannon in the office is a true gem. The entire process was handled with complete and clear explanation in each email. Highly recommend them for your traffic issues.

Speeding and registration violation

My experience was very professional and satisfactory. I was able to pay the attorney s fee up front. My attorney worked with the court and I paid a fine for a lowered charge in relationship to my registration. I did not receive points on my license for the speeding

I received a speeding ticket going around a truck that ice was flying off the back. I contacted A&B ( Ralph, Seth, Shannon) and they were able to get the fine reduced to no points. I would definitely recommend.
