Alive at 25 and Driver Improvement Courses

By Seth M. Azria, Esq.

Alive at 25® Courses

Some prosecutors, when offering a charge reduction to a driver under 25 years of age, will make the plea deal strictly contingent on the driver completing the National Safety Council's Alive at 25 course.

Course Details: These interactive courses are specifically designed for younger drivers to address peer pressure, distractions, and driver inexperience. The class requires 4 hours to complete, is given in a classroom setting, and typically costs around $60. Note: This is an educational program, not a DMV point-reduction course.

Currently, the classes are scheduled in several upstate regions, including Onondaga, Oswego, Montgomery, and Rensselaer counties.

New York Point and Insurance Reduction Program (PIRP)

The courses associated with this state program are the standard DMV-approved "defensive driving classes". These classes can be taken online or in a classroom, take a little over 5 hours (typically 320 minutes) to complete, and generally cost between $25 and $40.

Two Major Benefits of PIRP:
  • Insurance Discount: Once completed, the principal operator of the vehicle receives a mandatory 10% discount on the base rate of their auto liability and collision insurance premiums for 3 years.
  • Point Reduction: The driver's active DMV point total is effectively reduced by up to 4 points. Note: The points do not physically disappear from your record; rather, up to 4 points are "ignored" by the DMV for the purposes of calculating license suspensions. It does not eliminate the requirement to pay Driver Responsibility Assessments.

I worked with Seth Azria on numerous traffic tickets I’ve received. Most were 4-6 point violations and all of them have been reduced to 0 points or dismissed. Highly recommend working with this firm!

Take it from a Fellow Attorney, Seth Azria is wonderful and gets the job done.

I am an attorney working in the lower Hudson Valley. I had an unfortunate brush with the law on my birthday of all days! which resulted in my receipt of a speeding ticket en-route to a wedding in Buffalo. I'd never had any other infractions on my record and this offense is certainly not an area in which I specialize. I was very upset and worried but immediately upon calling Mr. Azria all of my fears and concerns melted away. Mr. Azria was able to plead my ticket down to a minor violation with no points and a small fee to the Court. Mr. Azria was quick, efficient and responsive. I never had a moment of worry that my case was being neglected. Mr. Azria and his team answered any questions that I had and kept me informed throughout the process. I could not have asked for a better team in my corner and you can't beat the price. You would have thought that I spent a small fortune for the quality of service that I received. Take it from me, Mr. Azria is the attorney you want representing you.

Best traffic court lawyer in the Syracuse area! Has reduced 2 of my tickets in NYS. Great price too. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Ticket resolution

Mr. Seth Azria handled my case competently and efficiently. I did not have to appear in court, which made the entire process really painless. He was successful in negotiating a reduction of a speeding ticket to a no-point non-moving violation, for which I am truly grateful. Even though I had a very good record prior to the event, that ticket would have impacted my finances quite negatively. Thanks to Mr. Azria this did not happen.
